Class 3 - Year 3 / 4 2018 - 2019

Mr Broughton

Welcome back after the summer! AND... A very warm welcome to Class 3!

This half term our topic is all about the law and disorder. Along the way, we will learn about the history associated with the Magna Carta as well as some prominent figures from history that have made moral choices which have impact upon our laws.

In Science, we are learning about sound and the physics behind how sounds are made.

Our Music sessions will focus upon pattern and pulse, while we shall also look at simple group compositions.

Reading

Your child will need to bring their reading books and communication book into school every day. It is important that they are reading every night for at least 20 minutes.    Please record any reading that the children do in their communication books as we do check them daily. Children will read with a teacher or teaching assistant throughout the week as well as participating in specific reading sessions which will be taught as part of the English curriculum.

PE

PE will be with Mr Gibbons on a Tuesday and with Mr Broughton on a Friday. Please make sure you have your PE kits and don't forget your water bottle.

Mr. B's Blog...

14.09.18: Another week done! Class 3 are really settling in now and beginning to show how studious a cohort they really are! We can celebrate the success of 3 children passing their times tables test today, a remarkable achievement. So well done to Shaun, Elma and Jake! All your hard work and effort has really paid off. A new, exciting challenge awaits for next week. We've also made huge strides with our tag rugby this week... There is the possiblility of a team representing the school in a few weeks, and from what I've seen so far, Johnny Wilkinson best play for the other team or they won't stand a chance! Needless to say, we're all having a great time in class 3 and can't wait for another exciting week at school.

07.09.18: After a fantastic first week back, I can honestly say that I am really excited about teaching such an enthusiastic group of children! We've kicked off with some e-safety; an introduction to french; and some drama  activities (amoungst other things). The children have already begun to take responsibility for their own learning and have started the academic year on a real high! Luck teacher Me!!!! :-D

08.10.18: We have been incredibly busy in the last few weeks. Firstly, lets celebrate some successes:

1. Times Tables - Issy / Jake / Shaun have all pasted tests in the last few week.

2. The year 3/4 tag rugby team dominated during our visit to Crewe Vagrants. We won the majority of our games and drew the others. :-)

3. Coding - The children have been beginning to learn how to code using a basic version of Python.  As part of their French lessons, they have created short animated videos of two characters having a discussion in French! #thinklikeacartoonist
This has beeen taken even further by one student (Isabelle Edwards) who has come into school this morning with an animation she has coded at home all about the Magna Carta! Fantastic dedication to her learning!

19.10.18: So here we are at the end of another fabulous week with year 3&4! Only one more week of this half term!
It was lovely to see so many parents on Tuesday and Wednesday and hopefully everyone found it as useful as I did!
The children have excelled themselves this week, in Maths we have secured lots of new methods for subtraction and in English the children have written the final drafts of their own narratives. Huge congratulations to William Holland, who passed his Bronze times tables test this week too!

25.10.18: Another fantastic week done and that brings us to the end of this half term! And what a successful half term it has been! The children have written some amazing stories, created a wonderful script and developed their own character descriptions. In maths, the children have finished place value and addition/subtraction with formal methods. Next half term we will be beginning to look and multiplication. Have a look on my youtube channel to have support with the upcoming methods and give yourself a head start!

Congratulations to Elma, Jake and Issy who have all pasted their times tables test this week too! A fabulous end to the half term.

Homework for this half term: The children have been sent home with spellings to learn over this half term. They will be tested on all the words on the Term 1 list upon their return to school. Please continue to read everyday and access SpellingShed and TT Rockstars.

A huge thank you to all of the children (and parents) for the support this half term, it has been a genuine pleasure to teach Class 3; all the children are so enthusiastic and have a real thirst for knowledge! I can't wait for the next half term.
Happy holiday, Kind regards, Mr. B
