Class 4 - Year 5 / 6 2017 - 2018

Mr Broughton

Mrs Huntbach

Welcome  to Class 4!

Welcome back! I hope that everyone has had a restful summer and is returning to school fresh and ready for an exciting term in Class 4.

This term in our English lessons we will be focusing upon how to recognise quality in our own writing (as well as others) and how to edit our own writing to include a wider variety of authorial tools and grammatical concepts. We will do this through a number of different text types including description, biography, reports and others. We will also be looking at the poetry of William Shakespeare as part of our Topic.

In mathematics, we are very excited about introducing our new maths scheme 'Maths No Problem' which is based extensively upon the highly successful Singapore Maths model.

Our topic for this half term is 'The Tudors & Queen Elizabeth I' and in Science we will be looking at Earth and Space (which I'm exceedingly happy about!).

I am planning on using Edmodo as an extension of the classroom, to help deepen the children's learning as well as teaching about internet safety and social media awareness. If anyone would like to speak with me after school, please feel free to contact the school office to arrange an appointment.

This should prove to be a great term! I look forward to getting to know evryone at Calveley a little better of the coming months (everyone has already made me feel so welcome).

Kindest regards,

Mr. Broughton
