Class 4 - Year 5 / 6 2016 - 2017

Miss Dowse

Mrs Huntbach

Welcome back to Class 4!

I hope you've had an exciting Easter, and feel ready to take on the challenges of the Summer Term!

This term we will be starting our "Go Kart" unit, where we will explore how to create Go Karts, considering the challenges and how we can design around them. In topic, we will look at Oulton Park and Bentley as a local history project, as well as investigating how car designers accommodate varying weather, climate and terrain.

I am delighted to announce that we will be undertaking a trip to Radbroke Hall in the Summer term. On this exciting trip we will be able to code robots and race them around a race track, as well as seeing the jobs coders perform at Barclay’s. In preparation for this we will build the fundamentals of coding in the classroom through code.org – feel free to ask your child to show you at home!

As we enter our final term of RE we will be researching how we feel about worship and religion. The children will be given time to formulate their own questions and research them. This will not only be beneficial as practice for any future ethical and spiritual reflection, but also provides practise in independent inquiry skills.

As our social media practice on Edmodo is going so well, we shall leave the site running throughout this term. If your child needs any extra help, particularly in the lead up to SATs, that is the best place to send me a message outside of school hours.

All the while our lucky Class 4 pupils are able to enjoy the specialist music teaching provided by the Love Music Trust, who loan us both their orchestral instruments and highly trained staff. Through them, we have formed an orchestra, with instruments ranging from baritones to clarinets and xylophones to trumpets. We will be aiming to impress at our end of year performance!

We also have our own PE specialist, Mr Gibbons, will work with our whole class on sports skills on Mondays and Mrs Stanley will target our class' fitness levels on Wednesdays.

Remember, throughout this year your homework for the week will be viewable on your student home page within this website. Simply type the login information from your communication diary into the "Student Login" box at the top of this page and select the homework tab.
