Our Board of Directors

Mrs Laura Leather

I joined the Governing Body at Calveley in 2005 and took the Chair in 2012. I joined Acton as a governor during Spring 2014 and have served on both Governing Bodies ever since.

Acton and Calveley schools became a Multi Academy Trust in September 2016. I am one of the Founding Members of the trust. I am also Chair of the Board of Directors. I have a particular interest in special educational needs so am very pleased to retain the role of SEN Director. We have recently established a Standards Committee, of which I have been asked to be a member.

I live locally in Cholmondeston where I have lived with my husband since 2003. We have 2 children, Ruby and Daniel.

My professional background is in Marketing and I have worked for a broad spectrum of organisations from Kellogg’s and Shell to, latterly, Marketing Director of Wedgwood and then Morphy Richards.

I have served as a Governor, and now Director, for over 10 years and in that time, I have seen a lot of change but I have also seen both schools going from strength to strength. It has been a privilege to be part of this journey and I look forward, with confidence, to the opportunities that lie ahead for us.

Elizabeth Ford

I have been involved with Acton School since 1988 when my eldest daughter Sarah started in Reception. My other two children, Richard and Katy also attended – Katy leaving in 2004. During that time I have served on the Governing Body as Parent Governor, Community Governor and served two terms as Chair of Governors. Now that Acton has become a member of the Real Life Learning Multi Academy Trust, I took on the role of Vice Chair as the Ex Offio Director appointed by the Diocese. (I also serve on the Members Board of the Academy)

I am a partner in our family farm and have been involved in that business since 1982. I am also Secretary and Treasurer of Acton Parish Hall

I have always been honoured to be involved with Acton School – a school which, thanks to the hard work of all the staff, pupils and governors is a very successful rural primary school which has been at the heart of the community for many generations. My husband and his brother and sister were pupils at Acton and their father was a governor. I am equally honoured to now be involved with Calveley which is also a successful rural school with the same ethos. I look forward to helping to ensure that both Acton & Calveley Schools continue to develop, grow and provide the highest standard of education for current and future generations

Mrs Fiona Sloyan

I have lived in Cheshire for over 20 years and am a member of the local community. My two eldest children are now established in their own homes, but I have one son still going through university.

My working life was spent mainly within the Probation Service, firstly working as a Probation Officer in various fields, before moving into training where I became a qualified NVQ assessor and worked with John Moores University, and finally moving back to the main service within management undertaking staff performance management, capability proceedings and monitoring of standards. I also spent 8 years working in the Middle East as a social worker in various hospital departments with a diverse population. I was involved in setting up new services and devising the structures and systems to support them.

I became a governor at Calveley School some years ago and then joined the Board of Directors of the Real Life Learning Multi Academy Trust when it was formed in September 2016. The work is challenging, but very rewarding and I look forward to contributing my skills to support the Trust as it improves the learning experience for all our children.

Mrs Penny Holding

I have lived in Calveley for 30 years and both my daughters spent their primary years at Calveley School. The teaching and care they received there gave them a solid foundation and both are now studying at University. During their time at Calveley School I was a working Mum and I had little time to spare but now I have retired from Cheshire Police this is my opportunity to give something back.

Thirty years as a police officer, at various ranks provided me with a wide range of experiences of life and the public services. As well as many years working in operational policing and in investigative roles, I was also a project manager for the police headquarters, investigated public complaints and implemented new ways of managing police information.

I became a Governor at Calveley school at the end of 2012 and perhaps not surprisingly given my background, I took on the role of Safeguarding Governor. For the past two years I was also Vice Chair. When Calveley joined with Acton to form the Real Life Learning Multi Academy Trust in September 2016 I was pleased to continued to focus on the Safeguarding role, as a Director.

I believe that converting to an academy with Acton School is the way to ensure the successful future of both schools. I hope to be able to contribute to their further development and to play a part in making sure every pupil has the best educational experience possible.

Lesley Latronico

I joined the Governing Body, now the Board of Directors, in May 2016 as a Foundation Governor for Acton Church. I was honoured to be asked to become a member having being involved in education all my career. Before my recent retirement I was a primary school teacher in Crewe and I have also taught in Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Germany. My responsibilities, as a director, are for R.E. and Collective Worship and in this role I thoroughly enjoyed watching Acton School's Harvest Festival Service. I am looking forward to being part of the development of the Real Life Learning Multi Academy Trust.

Mrs Jo Edwards

I have been a co-opted Governor since 2013 and more recently I am a Director on the board of Trustees for the Real Life Learning Academy.

I am the Pupil Premium Governor for the schools in the MAT and also subject responsibility for PE. This means I have a monitoring role on the application and effectiveness of these two areas.

My professional background is in Information Management and I have worked for Railway companies for the past 25 years including Intercity, Virgin Trains and to present Network Rail.

Being involved in the governance of a primary academy trust is a rewarding experience where we look to make a difference for all our children, staff and stakeholders.

Mrs Yvonne Wood

I am the governor responsible for looking at the management of school finances. I am a chartered accountant and have lived in Calveley since 1999. I am very impressed with the management of the school as well as the training I have received since my appointment which has certainly helped me to get to grips with things quite quickly. Outside school I am a full time working Mum, managing an accountancy practice with 75 staff. I am also secretary of Calveley Church.

Verity McKay

I joined the Board of Directors in September 2016. I was very pleased to be invited and am excited to get involved. This is the first time I’ve been involved in Governing, and have already learnt so much, and look forward to being able to give something back from a new perspective. My role on the board is as a co-opted director as well as a member of the standards committee. Outside of governing I work as a solicitor at a local firm. I really look forward to getting to know the schools and being a part of the Real Life Learning Multi Academy Trust.

Neil Duncalf

I am currently the Director with responsibility for Health and Safety. This involves carrying out regular visits to the schools to monitor the Health and Safety provision and ensuring that the schools are up to current standards. I am also working with the site manager to plan long term maintenance projects in the schools.

Prior to the forming of the Multi Academy Trust I served as a parent governor and Local Authority governor at Acton C of E Primary School; gaining valuable experience in school governance.

My professional background is also in education and I am a teacher at a special school in Northwich, specialising in pupils with autism. I am also the lead for the Cheshire West and Chester RE Hub and actively encourage the sharing of best teaching practises in Religious Education.

I live locally with my family, having lived in South Cheshire all my life. I am also the Clerk for Haughton Parish.

Staff Directors:

Amanda Beaven - Acton CE Primary Academy

I joined the Board of Directors in September 2018. I have been teaching for six years, in both KS1 and KS2. I started teaching in Year 1 at Acton in January 2017 and I am currently the Year 2 teacher. As part of my role at Acton I am also the subject leader for RE and have set up a Collective Worship Council which consists of two children from each year group. I have also recently taken on the role of Emotional Well-Being lead. Both RE and emotional well-being are two areas of education which I am passionate about. I am looking forward to developing these areas across the MAT.

As a staff director for the board I am keen to support the Multi Academy Trust and represent all members of staff.

Kier Glover - Calveley Primary Academy

I joined the Board of Directors in November 2018. I have worked across both Acton and Calveley since March 2014. I am currently the Administration Officer at Calveley Primary Academy and I am also responsible for the Academy Trust Pay Roll. As a staff director, I am looking forward to representing the staff across the trust. An extra part of my role that I enjoy is taking the school football team to compete in several tournaments across Crewe and Nantwich. I am excited about the future of both Acton and Calveley as well as my role in supporting the successful growth of the Real Life Learning Academy Trust.
