Special Educational Needs

Who is the SENCO at Calveley Primary Academy?

My name is Mrs Anna Pike and I am the SENCo, or Special Educational Needs Coordinator, at Calveley Primary Academy.  I currently work at both Acton CE Primary Academy and Calveley Primary Academy under the umbrella of the 'Real Life Learning Trust.' I also work at Bridgemere CE (Aided) Primary School as part of this role. This combined role enables me to share extensive support and provision across these schools.

I am a qualified teacher with more than 10 years experience teaching across the primary age range. I hold the National Professional Qualification for Headship and have worked as a SENCO at a range of Cheshire schools.

What does my role include?

I am here to ensure that children with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) at Calveley achieve their best. I work with the team to ensure that children with SEND achieve the very best possible educational and other outcomes, and that they become confident individuals armed with the skills required for successful transition into adulthood.

We work with children to help enable them to make their own choices; helping to prepare them for better transition between life stages, growing their independence, promoting participation in wider society and placing importance on keeping healthy.

Within the above ethos, this role encompasses:

Overseeing the day to day operation of the school's Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) policy to make sure that all children receive a consistent high quality response to meet their specific needs.

Coordinating support (or provision) for children with special educational needs and disabilities, ensuring that this is closely matched to both individual and strategic need, and that it is aligned with both the child's and the parents insights and wishes.

Ensuring that children, parents and carers are at the forefront of the support and learning that takes place for pupils with SEND in school.

Following the above, that children, parents and carers are kept well informed about the support that is being provided in school and in reviewing how individuals are progressing.

Working with the wider staff team to support and advise on the 'Graduated Approach,' i.e. how best to support pupils across the continuum of need, from Universal to Complex requirements, and to provide continual professional development to ensure that staff are well supported to confidently meet the needs of pupils with SEND.

Liaising with other professionals, agencies and organisations who can provide specialist support for specific needs and requirements.

Work with the management team to advise on the deployment of school's budget and resources.

When I am available and how do you contact me?

My usual working days for The Trust are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays although this is flexible due to need.

If you would like to chat to me regarding your child, then please email me directly on senco@actonceprimary.net and I will make contact with you as soon as possible to arrange a suitable time to meet. Alternatively you can call or pop into the School Office who will then make contact with me.

There is a 'Request for Meeting' form below which can be downloaded from the website and returned. This form details how best to contact you and your reason for the meeting; this enables me to make best possible preparations for the meeting.

Please do not hesitate to make contact with me no matter how small the issue, and I will be happy to support!
