Teacher Assistant: Miss Lester

Welcome to Willow Class, our nursery and reception children learn together through play following the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile. We have an engaging indoor area and a large outdoor area with lots of opportunities to explore and learn.

Important Information:

Children will have PE every Monday with Mr. Gibbons and on Tuesdays with Miss Hallard. Please make sure your child's PE kit is labelled and remains in school for the two days. We do encourage all children to get changed independently so please practice this at home if you need to.

Please make sure your reading books and school diary is in school everyday as we try and read as much as possible. Reading books will be changed every Friday. Children will also be taking a 'Share With Me' story book chosen from our class reading area. This allows you and your child to read and explore different books. These books will be changed every Friday.

Reception children are also asked to practise reading and writing their Common Exception words (Red Words) at home to help remember recognising these words by sight.

Summer Term

This term in English we will be exploring the story, 'The Storm Whale' and 'Little Turtle and the Sea'. We will learn new vocabulary and articulate ideas and thoughts into well-formed sentences. We will talk about the story and create different pieces of writing, including letters and retelling of stories. We will also be focusing on letter formation and focus on applying Set 2 and Set 3 Phonic sounds independently in our writing.

This term in Maths we will be concentrating on counting on and counting back, focusing on numbers to 20 and numerical patterns. We will also explore shape, measure, sorting and time.

In our Topic we will be focusing on 'The Monarchy' where we will be looking at members of the Royal Family and where they live. We will also be preparing different ways to help celebrate the Coronation of the King this summer.

Enrichments

This term we will be participating in lots of different activities including, creating a bug house and exploring different mini-beasts, planting and gardening and exploring our local area.

Learning Journeys
The learning journey books are updated weekly and will showcase children's WOW moments in their own personal learning journey.

How you can help at home
Read with your child every day, even if it's just for 5/10 minutes and record comments in the school diary.
Continue to read longer stories to your child, to develop their imagination and love of reading.
Encourage your child to be independent, such as zipping up their own coat, doing their buttons and carrying their bags into school.
Sing number songs together and encourage counting.
Here is a video to watch explaining how to pronounce each of the phonics sounds.
