Teacher Assistant: Miss Lester

Welcome to Willow Class, our nursery and reception children learn together through play following the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile. We have an engaging indoor area and a large outdoor area with lots of opportunities to explore and learn.

Important Information:

Children will have PE every Monday with Mr. Gibbons and on Tuesdays with Miss Hallard. Please make sure your child's PE kit is labelled and remains in school for the week. We do encourage all children to get changed independently so please practice this at home if you need to.

Please make sure your reading books and school diary is in school everyday as we try and read as much as possible. Reading books will be changed every Friday. Children will also be taking a 'Share With Me' story book chosen from our class reading area. This allows you and your child to read and explore different books. These books will be changed every Friday.

Spring Term

This term in English we will be exploring the story, 'Supertato' and 'Juniper Jupiter' by Lizzy Stewart. We will learn new vocabulary and articulate ideas and thoughts into well-formed sentences. We will talk about the story and write our own stories, through story maps and our writing. We will also be focusing on letter writing. We will focus on applying Set 1 and Set 2 Phonic sounds independently in our writing.

This term in Maths we will be concentrating on numbers 10, number bonds to 10 and subtracting. We will also focus on measure, including length, height, and weight.

In our Topic we will be focusing on 'Changes in our Living Memory' where we will be looking at things that have changed, including transport, toys, technology, and our community. In RE we will learning about different sacred texts and religious buildings. We will also be having lots of visits from real life superheroes from our community, including Police, Nurses and Firefighters!

Learning Journeys
The learning journey books are updated weekly and will showcase children's WOW moments in their own personal learning journey.

How you can help at home
Read with your child every day, even if it's just for 5/10 minutes and record comments in the school diary.
Continue to read longer stories to your child, to develop their imagination and love of reading.
Encourage your child to be independent, such as zipping up their own coat, doing their buttons and carrying their bags into school.
Sing number songs together and encourage counting.
Here is a video to watch explaining how to pronounce each of the phonics sounds.
