Welcome to Beech Class we can't wait to make memories with you and have a year full of fun and exciting learning.
Important Information
Reading Books-Reading books are changed every Friday and children will take home a reading book they can read themselves and a 'share with me book' that can be read to them by an adult.
Spring Term
This half term our vehicle text will be ' The Great Fire of London', by Emma Adams. After half term our class text will be 'Hermelin' by Mini Grey. We will be writing for a range of purposes, including writing letters, recount stories , diary entries and creating our own narratives.
Phonics: Year 1 children will continue to practice for their Phonics Screen in the Summer term.
Spelling: Year two will have daily targeted spelling lessons.
In Maths, this half term we will focus on addition and subtraction of money using part-whole models and bar models, in addition. This will enable children to find the most efficient strategies, such as counting on from the coin or note of highest value to find the total. Children will work with pounds, pence and notes, and towards the end of the unit they will work with pounds and pence together.
In Science, thefocus for this term in science is animals. We will learn the common names of some fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. We will be learning to describe and compare the structure of a variety of common animals (birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles, and mammals, including pets)
By the end of the unit we will identify and name a variety of common animals that are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
In our History topic we will be learning about The Great Fire, what happened on Pudding Lane? We will learn how the fire impacted London and what changes were made to the City after the fire.
We will be looking at chronological reports and eye witness statements. We will be looking at the diary of Samuels Pepys.
PE takes place each Monday and Thursday, whilst swimming takes place each Tuesday.
Year 2 SATs
Year 2 pupils will sit the end of Key Stage 1 assessments in May. These will take place between 9-20 May. Please continue to support your children by reading regularly at home and asking comprehension questions about the text.
