Welcome to Beech Class!
Teacher: Miss Moffatt
Teaching Assistant: Miss Knapman
Welcome to Beech Class we can't wait to make memories with you and have a year full of fun and exciting learning.
Reading Books- Reading books are changed every Friday and children will take home a reading book they can read themselves and a 'share with me book' that can be read to them by an adult.
This half term we are focusing on RE with our topic 'Celebrating World Religions'. We will explore Islam, Christianity and Hindu Dharma. In Geography, we will compare and contrast our local area with other areas around the world. We will be using atlases and globes to understand our location in the world. After half term we will be learning about Ancient Greece, focusing on food and the myth of Icarus.
In English, this term we will be using the vehicle text 'Jack and the Baked Beanstalk' by Colin Stimpson. We will use this exciting text to write a persuasive letter and a narrative of the story using our own words. After half term, we will turn our focus to 'Rosie Revere' by Andrea Beaty. We will use these ideas to invent our own story.
During our maths lesson we will be exploring fractions. We will then move on to position and direction followed by time. Year 2 will build their skills at solving word problems in maths. Year 1 will explore numbers to 100, consolidating their place value knowledge.
Reading books will be changed each Friday. Children will also choose a new library book each Friday.
PE takes place each Monday and Thursday, whilst swimming takes place each Tuesday.
Year 2 SATs
Year 2 pupils will sit the end of Key Stage 1 assessments in May. These will take place between 9-20 May. Please continue to support your children by reading regularly at home and asking comprehension questions about the text.
RECOMMENDED READING BOOKS FOR YEAR 1 & YEAR 2 (this is an excellent resource)
