The remote curriculum: what is taught to pupils at home?
A pupil's first day or two of being educated remotely might look different from our standard approach, while we take all necessary actions to prepare for a longer period of remote teaching. However, in the long term, there should be a seamless transition from face to face teaching to home based digitally accessed teaching. Our curriculum offer will not change. The contingency plan clearly illustrates the timetable we will follow.
What should my child expect from immediate remote education in the first day or two of pupils being sent home?
During the first two days there will be some digital learning but there will also be a learning pack your child should work through. The learning packs contain work for 2-3 days and include all instructions and resources your child will need. This provides a little bit of time to prepare our digital remote offer.
Following the first few days of remote education, will my child be taught broadly the same curriculum as they would if they were in school?
We will teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school wherever possible and appropriate.
How long can I expect work set by the school to take my child each day?
We expect that remote education (including remote teaching and independent work) will take pupils broadly the following number of hours each day:

How will my child access any online remote education you are providing?
All remote learning will be accessed via Google Classroom. Each child has already been made aware of the Google Classroom and how to access this. There is a helpful guide for parents if you require any additional support. The children will login to their classroom and find their work available. Google meet links will be available to the children for the sessions that will be taught live.
If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them to access remote education?
We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. We take the following approaches to support those pupils to access remote education:
How will my child be taught remotely?
What are your expectations for my child's engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide at home?
We expect all of our families to try and engage in our remote education offer so as to avoid any further gaps in learning. We would encourage our families to contact us if in the event your child is ill and cannot access their learning. We are however, very mindful that parents may too be at home trying to work and this may pose some problems for them, especially with younger children. Please keep in contact with us so we can see if there is anything we can do to help. The minimum we ask is your child is doing some form of learning each day.
How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?
All staff will check who is attending the meet and greets and live learning sessions. Any child missing will receive a telephone call from the school to check if any support is required. Parents will also receive a telephone call if there are concerns that work is not being submitted via Google Classroom.
How will you assess my child's work and progress?
Feedback can take many forms and may not always mean extensive written comments for individual children. For example, whole-class feedback or quizzes marked automatically via digital platforms are also valid and effective methods, amongst many others. For most work there will be some peer marking in the live lessons and staff may request to see your child's work. The work can be submitted in the Google Classroom and the staff can mark these and return the work to the pupil to see the comments and respond.
How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?
We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers to support those pupils. For each child with SEND, we have set up an enhanced classroom which contains additional resources for these pupils to help them with their work. Teaching Assistants are also attached to these classrooms and can provide support according to specific needs. The SENCO will contact all families regularly to ensure there are no problems and will resolve any issues where they exist.
If my child is not in school because they are self-isolating, how will their remote education differ from the approaches described above?
This is obviously the most difficult scenario for us to address as all teachers will be teaching their classes. Therefore, a pack of work will be provided for any pupil isolating, to work through. The classteacher will check in with the pupil every other day to ensure they are able to complete the work and help and support where needed. The work will be emailed or returned to school every third day for marking and feedback. There may be some instances when the child at home can access the live learning in the classroom.
