Our Geography Vision – creating global citizens through a wide and varied understanding of the world.

The Geography curriculum at Calveley links children to physical and human features of the world around them. This is done through enquiry based topics that excite children and engage them in their learning. The Geography curriculum is made up of a mix of skills and knowledge – the skills to explore, enquire and deduce as well as the specific knowledge of processes and locations. This helps to nurture a passion and appreciation for the geography of our Earth. As the pupils progress through each year group and key stage, their knowledge about the past will develop and strengthen, giving them a sound understanding of geographical processes and features. The content will develop children's knowledge of both human and physical Geography. It will also provide the children with subject specific vocabulary. All pupils will benefit from teaching and learning that is based upon the programmes of study for Geography which are set out in the National Curriculum.

Our Principles of Geography Teaching
Great Geography happens when:

  • Children have opportunities to lead their own learning and investigate geographical changes and patterns.
  • The learning in class relates as much as possible to the real world, through case studies and examples.
  • Geographical skills are taught in a practical and engaging manner.
  • Children make connections between places and develop their understanding of a wide range of other places' characteristics and culture.
